Custom Pool Cues Are Affordable Quality!
Just because a pool cue comes in two pieces that screw together doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a custom cue. Real custom pool cues are made to fit the customer’s needs, not because they’d be easier to ship when they’re in two pieces. A two-piece cue could just be a mass-produced cue that is made with unseasoned wood and cheap glue, which would not be a wise investment.
So, what do you look for when you’re ready to order your custom pool cues? And, what makes a high-quality custom cue? A custom cue has several distinct parts, including the wood, shaft, wrap, ferrule, tip, and joint materials and types. The balance, diameter and weight of the cue are important considerations that determine the cue’s performance.
How do you go about deciding on which custom cue is for you? For starters, you can try out all sorts of different cues. Get the feel of it, and analyze your likes and dislikes. When you find one you like, check to see who manufactured it.
Then determine if it was constructed from seasoned, dense hardwood because, if it wasn’t, the cue will eventually warp. Kiln-dried wood is not good enough, because custom pool cues are made from wood that’s been incrementally reduced in size, and this can take years to accomplish. Exotic woods accented with all sorts of attractive inlays would not only make a quality custom pool cue, they are pieces of art in and of themselves.
Make sure you don’t feel a vibration in the cue when you hit pool table balls or if you lightly let it fall on the rubber bumpers. Then look at the tip of the cue. The ferrule, the metal piece that not only holds the butt cap, also prevents the cue’s wood from splitting. Quality ferrules will be made with Ivorene III, Aegis II, phenolic or linen-based fiber material. The butt cap should not be made from a nylon wrap fabric, as this would be a bad sign; if the manufacturer skimps on the butt cap, they’ll skimp on other items as well.

golf problems ... i need to replace ferrules on my woods?
i have a 5 and a 7 wood that has no ferrules. they cracked and fell off. i'm looking for ferrules that snaps on. i don't want to pull the shaft and then have it re-shafted. i've seen the snap on ferrules but i don't know where to get them. do you know? please help!
