Golf club regripping questions? tape and solvent?
I am reshafting golf clubs and am wondering where do you get the correct 2 sided tape (aside from golf stores), the only one i found is 2 sided carpet tape? I also heard glass cleaner (Windex) can work for solvent ( the mineral spirits i found seems pricier than one bottle of Windex). Ive already removed the grips, easier than i thought. Thanks.
It can be pretty fun to do this kind of stuff on your own.
Yes, I've used Windex instead of grip solvent. The lubricating effect lasts longer, so you have some extra time in case your grip graphics are off. You can get two-sided tape anywhere they sell paint supplies... just make sure the tape is 2" wide, so it goes around the entire shaft. Two-part metal epoxy is cheaper at Wal-Mart, and it does just as good a job.
One word of caution... get yourself a table-mounted vice, if you don't already have one (or go to a friends house and use his). Cut off two fingers of a leather glove and make sure those fingers sandwich the shaft when you put it in the vice- this protects the shaft from scratches. The vice is important! It'll take a lot of effort to slide the grip on, and that device will make it a ton easier than trying to hold it and put it on.
