Green Path Transfers Launches Global Service, Provides Eco-friendly Ground Transportation to Conscientious Travelers
London – 7 March 2011. Green Path Transfers (GPT, www.greenpathtransfers.com), the newest subsidiary of the WHL Group, has launched as a global provider of eco-friendly airport and intercity transfers.
GPT answers the needs of leisure and business travelers seeking cost-effective ways to reduce their carbon footprints. GPT has recruited to its unique global network only established, service-minded ground transportation operators with a demonstrated commitment to a greener future, either through their pioneering use of low-emission vehicles or their movement toward adoption of sustainable practices and clean technology. GPT further neutralizes any presently unavoidable emissions by 100% carbon offsets through reputable organizations like atmosfair and Blue Ventures Carbon Offset.
Powering a Green Engine
In keeping with a vision to help build a sustainable and responsible travel industry, GPT is on a mission to go green. "This involves placing significant emphasis and focus on partnering with transfer companies that are already using low-carbon-emission vehicles, wherever possible, to operate our transfers," reads the GPT website.
The goal is to assemble a critical mass of ground transportation companies committed to zero or very low carbon emissions through the use of alternative fuels and/or engines. GPT partners like those in Portland (Oregon), Vail Valley (Colorado), Los Angeles and San Diego (California), Toronto (Canada) and elsewhere currently employ hybrid, fuel cell/hydrogen or electric vehicles, as well as biodiesels, ethanol, liquified petroleum gas or compressed natural gas.
Offsetting Carbon Emissions
"As well as this, every single one of our transfers is 100% carbon offset," continues the GPT website. "We recognize that many of the local suppliers we work with are just starting the journey to using carbon-neutral transfer vehicles and hence we have decided to work with two organizations we believe offer innovative and extremely accountable/transparent offset options, in order to fully offset 100% of the emissions produced by our transfers."
Blue Ventures Carbon Offset (BVCO) is a charitable organization that runs socially responsible projects through sponsorship of solar and fuel-efficient stoves. BVCO is helping GPT develop accurate carbon-dioxide calculation methods. "We are then able to offset carbon quickly and permanently in our socially responsible projects," adds Leda Smith Sommerville, BVCO Program Manager. "Like GPT, BVCO is committed to creating positive environmental change by reducing global carbon-dioxide emissions."
atmosfair is an independent, non-profit organization that offsets greenhouse gas emissions by collecting donations against them. The donations are then used to finance projects in developing nations. "As green local transfer companies are not always available, atmosfair supports GPT by offsetting the unavoidable emissions through high-quality emission-saving projects," comments Katharina Behrendt of atmosfair. "atmosfair is pleased to help advance GPTs sustainable mission."
Meeting Consumer Needs
With GPT's easy-to-use online booking system, travelers and businesses hit the road confident that, for rates equal to those of other global providers, their ground transportation is in good hands and that they've made the beneficial choice to reduce their carbon footprints. Partnerships with carbon-offset organizations bring added peace of mind with the knowledge that their trips are helping to fund meaningful clean-energy projects worldwide. From solar energy programs in India to hydraulic irrigation systems for rural farmers in China, the initiatives Green Path Transfers supports through its carbon-offset partners extend far beyond tree planting.
Clearing the Green Path
"It's crucial for us to embrace green and cleaner technologies and modes of transport for the long-term health of the planet," says Adrian Cordiner, CEO of the GPT far-reaching network of ground transportation operators. "As transport is a main emitter of carbon, it's a natural place to start in order to try to make a dent in global carbon emissions."
GPT recognizes, however, that its chosen green path is a long and challenging one. "We started this business because we want to change the way transport is done, whilst also making sure we offer unparalleled service and extremely competitive fares. We are passionate about a greener future for the planet, and we love working with like-minded customers, operators and organizations to help shape that future!"
To that end, GPT has put in place a range of incentives and supports to move all local partners toward a greener future that includes upgrading their fleets to include any lower-carbon options available to them.
"Every little bit helps," Cordiner adds. "We believe that, by being an industry leader in the use and support of cleaner technology, both in ground transportation and through offsets, we will inspire others to follow suit."

how to install putting green in backyard?
for my husband's birthday this year i would really like to put a putting green in our backyard. I am curious how much it costs and if its possible to be a do-it-yourself thing. if anyone has put one in or has any info - i would really appreciate it. thanks!
I built my first minature golf course when I was a senior in High School so I am confident on these suggestions:
Build a squared-in area the size you want encircled with treated 2X4s on edge(staked and nailed down). Next Roundup(Glyposate) to kill all the grass. Then lay down two layers of tar paper(or even used shingles, if you are broke LOL).
Next fill and level the area with sand--be sure to pack and put a crown so the rainwater will run off to some extent.
Then use ASTROTURF to make the putting green. You may want to lay down some throw away used carpet below the astorturf to give it that good "green feeling"
It is easy to build and quite fun!
A little tip: Keep a sheet of polyethylene film anchored down over the site when it is finished to keep the rain off--just use bricks as anchors around the edges of the film.
