Description

Over the last 20 years, John Hoeflich has designed many of the game's best-selling irons. Million of golfers, including many of the world's best players, have benefited from his iron design philosophy of mixing art with technology, and looks with performance. With the Nickent Women's 3DX Eight-Piece Iron Set (4-SW), Hoeflich challenged himself to create the highest level of game improvement irons, combined with the classic look that have come to represent Hoeflich irons over the years.

The first thing you'll notice after hitting a 3DX iron is the distance. Cast from 431 stainless steel, the 3DX has a remarkably thin and strong face that creates a very high coefficient of restitution (COR) to promote a faster ball speed. Twenty grams of weight were saved from the face and redistributed in two perfectly balanced tungsten-polymer fused inserts (XW Inserts) on the back of the clubhead. Moving 20 grams of weight to the back of the blade and widening the sole makes the 3DX easy to launch and easy to play from a wide array of lies.

Weight is spread to the extreme heel and toe by the XW Inserts, so the head is more forgiving and the club is more stable on impact. Balls will stay in the air longer and land softly as a result of the unique Nickent U-Grooves that have been expertly matched to the center of gravity (CG) of the irons to provide the ideal spin rate under all conditions. The inserts also give the 3DX irons unmatched forgiveness and feel that will make an immediate imprint on golfers of any level. The tungsten-polymer design absorbs vibration from impact, and reduces the majority of the shock and harsh feel often associated with irons that use hard tungsten plugs or screws to lower the CG or achieve perimeter waiting. Last but not least, Nickent has equipped all the 3DX irons with high-launching UST SR2 graphite shafts. These shafts have been matched to the ironheads to maximize power and distance, and encourage faster swing speeds with no loss of control.

What is the Coefficient of Restitution (COR)?
The Coefficient of Restitution, referred to as COR in golf circles, is a measurement of the clubface's ability to rebound the ball, expressed as a percentage that is determined by a ball's speed off the clubhead divided by the speed at which it struck the clubhead. The term crept into popular golf vernacular with the rise of ultra-thin-faced drivers. An effect of thin faces is known as the "spring-like effect" or "trampoline effect"--the face of the driver depresses as the ball is struck, then rebounds. This provides a little extra power to the shot, and a club that exhibits this property will have a very high COR. Of course, the USGA has imposed maximum CORs to level the "spring-like effect" playing field. For a club to be allowed under USGA rules, it must have a maximum COR of 0.830.

Any Club will do…

December 1, 2008 There’s something to be said when you buy a new Callaway or TaylorMade driver, bring it on the course and it misbehaves. You throw it in your bag and you swear you’re going to throw it in the closet. I remember going to one of those demo days this summer where all the club manufacturers’ tent were lined up waiting for interested golfers to try out their clubs. I went to all my favorite tents, grabbed the most shiniest, hottest looking clubs and put on my glove. After shanking a
