So i got a new driver?
Okiee so i got the TaylorMade Superfast 2.0 driver. It's white, has a loft of 10.5, has a low torque shaft, and a ladies grip. Btw i'm 13 years old. Its definitely different from my old TaylorMade SVG with a loft of 12. Now my new driver, i tried it out, its lighter, and makes a DING! noise when i hit it. I feel i did better with my older one. But what can i do? Oh and i feel like i messed up the grooves of it. The white inside the groove smeared and won't come off. How can i feel better with my new driver? My coach mentioned it would give an additional distance of 20 yds. I haven't gotten that YET. XP
Btw sZIG, i'm THIRTEEN years old. XP Anyway, i can't use my old driver because they changed the club head of my old driver to the TaylorMade fairway wood burner. I'm a bit confused, my coach and all said its a 3 Wood, but i guess its the same? So yah my new fairway has my old driver's ladies shaft.
As a thirteen year old female, you should be using a women's shaft, with a women's flex with a lower kick point to increase the trajectory of your ball. Shaft torque represents how well the shaft will resist twisting during a swing. The higher the degree of torque, the more the shaft will twist during your swing. This is important because too much or too little torque could result in the club face not being square at impact. Slower swing speeds typically need a HIGHER torque to help square the club face, while faster swingers usually have the strength to control the club face without having much shaft torque.
The weight of a golf club is crucial to how well you can swing it. Too heavy a club and you will not be able to generate enough club head speed, especially a 13yr old female. Too light and you may not be able to control the swing; which you might see with a junior club. You want to find a shaft that is light enough for you to generate a good swing speed without being too light that you lose accuracy. Typical shaft weight for a female is between 44 and 55 grams. My guess is you should be on the low side.
Putting together a club for a 13yr female is definitely tricky, depending on your size and strength. A low torque shaft, combined with a lower lofted clubhead is asking for trouble in your developing swing, unless you are on the bigger side with at least a swing speed of 75-80 minimum.
Stock shaft on Taylormade Superfast 2.0 driver Matrix-X Con 4.8 L Flex (Ladies Flex)Torque 4.6 Weight 44gms. This shaft would do...it's a standard women's flex shaft. Is yours? Or is yours a Men's flex R, with a women's grip reapplied? If you have a women's flex, then the biggest obstacle is the lowered loft on your clubhead, which could be enough to squelch your game... until your stronger.
What can you do? Make sure your shaft is appropriate, work on core muscle building and flexibility, practice at the driving range with the reduced loft and if need be; use your 3 wood until your are comfortable with your driver. You could also return to where you purchased it and ask for an equivalent trade (sometimes they charge you an extra 10% of the purchase for the wear on the club) you could trade your driver in for a higher lofted model (looks like it only comes in a 9.5, 10.5 or 13), with the appropriate women's flex shaft.
To help your confusion over your old shaft and new 3 wood. The clubhead is what dictates the type of club, so using a TM Burner Fairway clubhead establishes the loft of the club or designated club number/name, a 3 wood for TM Burner is 15 degrees. The shaft, your previous driver shaft can be cut down to accommodate a 3, 4 or 5 wood by cutting the butt end of the shaft. Shafts are interchangeable and getting the proper shaft and loft in your clubhead are the most important.
Using your 3 wood with 15 degree loft as a club off the tee box, in lieu of your driver, will not affect your distance much from your 12 degree driver, at the most you might lose 20 yards but maintain your accuracy, until you can manage the reduced loft; which yes, in time may help you attain more distance...but so will just maturing, growing, getting stronger and getting more experience with the game of golf.
