Can a planet have it's magnetic poles in different places to ours?
Our poles are where the planet spins the least, and while this makes sense, I just want to confirm it.
For example; if mars had an electromagnetic field (which I know it doesn't) would, by nature, the two polar caps be north and south? or could they in other areas instead?
Thanks guys, I just thought it would be a bit strange if a planet had it's north and south poles along, say for example, it's equator. ^^;
Yes it can be different..as a matter of fact...all planets pole move slowly for millions and millions of years until they have switched and they keep doing this forever.....and in all truth...the north pole is really off to the left....it not at the top of the world any more....and hasn't for a long time now....they reason you learn it at the top at school.....is it save time....explaining that to a middle school would be like explaining.....what a black hole is....I hope that helps
