Los Angeles Lakers NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers is a professional National Basketball Association (NBA) team that is situated in Los Angeles. Their home ground is the Staples Center which is shared between them, the Los Angeles Clippers, and their sister franchised that is the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. They play there wearing purple and gold colored uniforms. They became a member of the NBA in 1949. They are one of the seven teams that are included in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. They are amongst the most celebrated teams in the history of any category of professional sports.
They were established in Detroit before relocation to Minneapolis, where the team was officially titled after nickname of the state i.e. the land of 10,000 Lakes. To date it has bagged five league championships in several leagues. At the end of 70s and the start of 80s their popularity sky rocketed which made them one of the top notch franchises of NBA with the likes of such players as Johnson and Abdul-Jabbar. Their coach at that time was Pat Riley who steered them into five titles and three championships against opponents the Boston Celtics. They are specially noted for posting the highest number of wins and also the highest percentage of wins in addition to the highest number of playoff appearances in NBA. They also have the 2nd highest number of championships after the Boston Celtics.
So it won’t be wrong to say that they are supposed to be one of the most successful franchises in the history of NBA. Apart from the number of wins they also hold the record for the largest winning streaks in the NBA. The winning streak started in 1971 and ended in January 1972. They only missed the NBA playoffs 5 times. According to the magazine Forbes the Lakers have been valued as the second most valuable basketball team in US. It is estimated to be around dollars568 million.
Only the New York Knicks precede them. In the start of seventies the Lakers made a record of 33 straight victories. The Lakers have had several superstar players in it such as George Mikan, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James-Jabbar, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and also Kobe Bryant. The Lakers debuted in 1947 after the acquisition of the Detroit Gems by Ben Berger and Morris Chalfen. After the acquisition the relocation to Minneapolis took place.
The tickets for their games are available at their home ground the Staples Center. In 1999-2000 the services of Phil Jackson were acquired for the job of the head coach. During his very first year with the Lakers he led the team to a NBA title against opponents the Indiana Pacers. When NBA players travel to away games do they sleep on hotel beds?
i would expect that some of them would not fit on the mattresses in the hotel room. Do they push together two twin beds or something? two queens? sleeping bag?
im thinking this could factor into the "home court advantage" because I for one need a good nights sleep before any big day
This used to be a real problem for road teams. However, when Manute Bol came into the league, Washington called the road hotels they would be staying in and told them about his height in advance. Many of the hotels brought in special order beds. Other hotels set up extensions in advance for him. I guess that for many luxury hotels that serve sports teams make similar accommodations when NBA teams are going to be staying there. It makes sense to make the short-term investment if you can continue to get teams staying in your hotel year after year.
